Birthmarks are harmless skin irregularities that appear at birth, or shortly after, anywhere on the body. There are two types of birthmarks: vascular (caused by an overgrowth of blood vessels) and pigmented (caused by excess skin pigment). Vascular birthmarks may resolve themselves, but they typically become darker and thicker over time. Vascular birthmarks can be safely removed with specific laser treatments, or surgical excision when deemed necessary. Pigmented birthmarks can also be treated with lasers for a safe and effective removal.
